The warrior and the dancer…
La Bayadère ("The Temple Dancer") is a love story based on a traditional Indian legend.
Solor is a young warrior who is engaged to the daughter of the Rajah, yet in love with the bayadère, or temple dancer, Nikiya, who shares his feelings.
Things become more complicated as it emerges that the great Brahman is also in love with the dancer.
This ballet is inspired by two traditional Indian folk tales and was part of Noureev's last tour in 1992.
