Since its first performance on Broadway in 1971, the musical comedy Jesus Christ Superstar, mixing rock and religious music, has enjoyed popular and critical success similar to that of the album released a year earlier.
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's rock opera has since been performed on the most prestigious stages on the planet, a veritable classic of the musicals.
The show's two acts tell the story of the last two weeks in the life of Christ before his crucifixion, from the point of view of Judas.
