L'Elisir d'amore, opera
This event has now finished

Melodramma giocoso.
Our western literature overflows with stories of elixirs, potions and poisons. Some cause love to blossom, others cause death.
Adina, the heroïne of L'elisir d'amore, knows a lot about them: she enters the stage with a book in her hand, a smile on her lips, revelling in the story of Tristan and Isolde. She is laughing out loud at their adventures and retells the story to a rhythm of the waltz: in 1832, Richard Wagner had still not reached the age of twenty…
Nemorino's love song, this 'furtiva lagrima' expressly wanted and added by Donizetti, is something of a poetic manifesto: it makes the dominant theme of the whole opera into one of stealth, allusion and evanescence. The singers stand out with their restraint and subtlety. Remembering that the decade of the 1830s was also the era of Musset and his comedies and proverbs, where the helplessness of hearts still knew the art of the understatement and when the dreams of young girls were sung in couplets.
